The Voice - Blind Auditions - Part 3 Recap

It’s time for Part 3 of the Blind Auditions

Ooh it’s a funny opening bit With the coaches goofing off and using cameras and setting up lights. The pandemic is making it hard for the coaches. Ha!

Rio Souma - Crusin’ by Smokey Robinson

Rio was born and raised in Detroit where he works on the assembly line at the Chrysler plant. He’s wanted to become a singer since he was little. He’s also willing to leave his job if he has to.

He’s got a great voice. Love his Falsetto. Gwen, John, and Kelly turn pretty quickly. Kelly says he has an incredible gift. Blake did hit his button didn’t know which direction to steer him. He’s also never heard the song. John gives Rio a lesson on the history of the song. John said he nailed the song. Gwen said he sounds professional. Rio started singing after watching Sister Act 2. Rio picks John. Kelly jokes that they have to sing something from Sister Act 2 if he makes the finale.

Ryan Berg - Waiting on the World to Change by John Mayer

I joined it late because local breaking news.  If he has a great voice. My only issue is he isn’t very original. He sounds too much like John Mayer. He’s from Dallas. When he was 18, his mom came out as a lesbian and his family had a hard time with it. He used music to get through the rough times. His mom is his biggest inspiration. I wouldn’t have turned my

Chair but Gwen turned and blocked John. Gwen liked the classic sound of his voice. Gwen tries to launch him his Team Gwen shirt and it was an epic fail. They use John’s arm on a selfie stick to hand him the shirt. Ryan Joins Team Gwen

Becca Kottte - American Woman by The Guess Who

Becca sang as a child and eventually got a role in rock of ages on Broadway. Afterward she sang backup for Rod Stewart. She’s been trying to make it big ever sense.

This isn’t a good song choice. Very karaoke. I don’t really think she knows who she wants to be as an artist. Way too much belting. Of course no one turned. Kelly thought It was wobbly in certain places. Coaches tell her she should come back. Ummmm. No Turns

Jus John - Talk by Khalid

He grew up singing in church. His mom is his biggest fan. In 1998 his mom was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. He takes care of her but hasn’t been able to spend time with her because of the pandemic. Jus John wants to be on Team Legend.

I absolutely love his voice. A very soulful maybe jazzy vibe. And Blake is the only

One to turn. I hate that. Kelly liked

His voice but wanted to hear more dynamics. Gwen thought it was all in one place but really

Strong. John thinks he has a great voice Jus John joins Team Blake

Ben Allen - Red Dirt Road by Brooks & Dunn

He’s 42 years old. He grew up hunting, fishing, and riding mountain bikes. He was real close with his brother who was killed in a motorcycle accident a week before his wedding. He’s gif a great country song. Blake and Gwen are the first two to turn, followed by John. Gwen said it sounded like a record when he was singing. Kelly likes his talking voice. Blake gets offended because Kelly said Ronnie Dunn is her favorite country singer. John loves his tone. Blake said he missed an old fashioned nasally country singer. Of course Ben picks Blake.

Kelsey Watts - I Dare You by Kelly Clarkson

Works on a showboat in Nashville but she wants to peruse a singing career. Wow she’s got a great voice. One of the best we’ve seen so far. Kelly and Gwen finally turn on the high note. That was amazing! Kelly again starts talking about being in a singing competition and said it was better than her own version. Gwen calls her talented and incredible. Kelsey picks Kelly as her coach

James Mays - The Show Must Go On by Queen

He’s from Memphis and he loves animal print. He has a big personality. His mom directed the children’s choir at church. His mom died from coronavirus and a few days later his dad died from diabetes. Yikes! This is not good at all. It was a screechy mess. Obviously no turns. John says he has a powerful voice but there were control issues. Kelly thinks he needs to be on Broadway. James says he would want to make an R&B/pop album. Coaches tell him to come back. No Turns

Carter Rubin - Before You Go by Lewis Capaldi

He’s got an amazing voice. He’s only 14 and has a crazy high voice. John and Gwen both

Turn. The coaches are in shocked by his voice. His grandpa was in Jay and the Americans. Ooh him an his grandpa harmonize so well together. His brother has autism and they share a very close bond. Gwen thinks she can help him because she has a son his age. John says he usually doesn’t turn for young people.  Carter picks Gwen.

Casme - Baby I Love You

Casme is the oldest of her kids. She started her own mentoring program. Ooh she has a great voice. Nice throwback to the 70s and 80s. Love her growl. John is the only

One to turn which surprised me. She was real good. Kelly loves the rasp in her voice. Casmè joins Team Legend.

Michelle Moonshine - Carolina in my Mind by James Taylor

Grew up listening to 70s music. She had an opportunity before to audition for The Voice but she got pregnant. She’d a single mom and is coming back to audition.

I love her style. She has a 79s retro vibe. Wow.  No one turned. I don’t get that. Blake thinks she sounded a little timid. Gwen loved what she did. Kelly wanted her to show her range more.

Desz- Unbreak my Heart by Toni Braxton.

She discovered she could sing when she was 11. Soon after her mom died. The first time she sang was her mom’s funeral. She sang with the Kanye West Coachella choir.

I love her voice. A very low alto. She’s amazing, Kelly and Gwen are the first to turn
