America’s Got Talent - Auditions 1 - Recap

 The best in summer reality tv is back(I’m biased because I don’t think the summer is complete until Big Brother premieres, but still AGT is superior). 

The whole cast is back from  last season including Terry Crews as host, and judges Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel, Sofia Vergara, and Simon Cowell.

Of course Simon missed the live shows due to an electric bike crash that required major back surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation. It’s nice to have him back. 

One thing I’m not looking forward to seeing is the fake audience noises and shots. Yes we know you aren’t having an audience due to covid but the fake audience is a little too much. Why not a virtual audience like the voice is doing, hmm...

The Canine Stars - Dog Act 

Well we start off when them welcoming Terry Crew to  the stage, but it’s a dog in a tux? Ok it’s the first act of the night.’they have sound bytes of the host and judges with the dogs playing them. Ok this is clever. Ohh they have human hands. I’m almost in the floor. The dog is licking the microphone too. Now a guy comes out and does a routine with a dog. They’re quickly buzzed. Now. Girl and a dog doing decent tricks are up next. I love the Gimmick but you can only take it so far. Oh and dog Heidi is hitting the golden buzzer. Yayyyyyy. This is corny but actually kind of funny. Probably not gonna last but still funny for a one time thing. Simon calls the performance genius. Howie calls it the best animal act he’s seen on the show. Heidi calls the concept genius. Sofia calls it creative. 4 Yeses 

Peter Rosalita - 10 Year Old Singer 

Peter is from Abu Dhabi but is a citizen of the Philippines. Peter says if he wins he’ll buy a Nintendo Switch and a laptop. Howie reminds him he’s only spent about $1,500 of his prize. Sofia asks him what he does for a living. Ha! 

Of course he has an amazing voice for his age. He reminds me a lot of David Archuleta back when he was in Star Search. Sofia calls him adorable. Howie calls him amazing and predicts he’ll go far. Heidi wonders what his neighbor things of him hitting the high notes, and told Mariah to watch out. Simon said Peter  gave him goosebumps. 4 yeses 

Now a montage of no’s. We see a terrible juggler Brian Panky, and an annoying dance group called Elektro Botz. 

Aiden Bryant - Aerielist

Aiden is 16 and self taught. He learned his act from watching videos of Pink. He’s had it rough not fitting in at school and having learning problems. This type of act is hit or miss for me. It’s a beautiful form of art but not what I’d call something you’d see command an entire show. He’s great at what he does though. He’d be great in Vegas at a Cirque de Soleii show. And the fake audience is on their feet. His mom is so proud. Heidi is very impressed. Sofia says it looks like he’s been doing this for years. Howie said he should be very proud. Simon called it a ridiculously good audition. 4 yeses

Mr Cherry and Chilkki - Comedy Act

Mr Cherry and Chikki are from Japan. Mr cherry has broken a lot of records. Chikki acts as his sideshow and translator. He’s going to try and break walnuts. Ok this is stupid. Not

Even worth the time. There’s a problem.’the world record is 71 but they only have 63 on stage. Oops. Now Heidi is doing nut jokes. Yikes. Now they have 80 so they’re good. Ok he’s crushing them with his ass. Yes this isn’t amusing at all. He did break the record with 79 nuts. Again not impressed. Simon wants to see him do more with his nuts. Howie says no. Sofia says yes, Heidi says no. Well now Mr Cherry is throwing a tantrum while custodians clean up his nuts. 2 nos 

Northwell Health Nurse Choir - Choir of frontline nurses 

The nurses worked on the frontline when the pandemic started in New York. As a person who was in choir in high school, I always have a soft spot for choirs. Especially one made up of nurses. Yes I’m a sucker for the inspirational stories. This is fun. It’s a mashup of Lean on Me and Stand By Me with some a capella elements. This is amazing. Makes me feel like I’m back in high school. Simon called jt incredible. Sofia loved it. Heidi said it was beautiful. Howie calls them heroic and said he wants to “stand” for them. He then hits the Golden Buzzer!!!!! Northwell Health Nurse Choir is through to the live shows! How can anyone not love this? They’ve had a crazy year and come out here and out on an emotional performance. I can’t wait to see more from them. Simon calls them the ones to beat. 

Keith Apicary - I have no idea. 

This guy is such a nerd and is obviously an act he’s sitting backstage drinking a juice box. He’s talking about gaming and dancing. I have no idea. Ok yea it’s a comedy act, he’s dancing like a complete nerd to some sort of techno music. I mean it’s in the so bad it’s good category, but not worth my time. He finishes by falling off the stage. Simon loved every second of it. Sofia called it unexpected. Howie called him a surprise. This guy is like an snl character or something. 4 yeses

Before Keith’s audition we saw a clip of Katie Kusiciel who did jello wrestling. Yea no thanks 

Gerald Kelly - Comedian 

Next is a stand up comic. There’s a man and his 7 year old son who are both competing against each other. This should be fun. Gerald does jokes about new math homework and raising kids. He’s pretty funny. Howie called him likable and said he had good timing and stage presence but didn’t like the material. Heidi liked the material because she understood what he was talking about. Simon didn’t think it was very dynamic but still liked it. Sofia called him adorable. 4 yeses 

Lil Hunter - Son of Gerald and kid comedian 

He started by critiquing  his dad. Ok he has tons of personality. He calls his dad a loser. His comedic timing is really good. Oh no he froze up. He must be nervous. Now he’s doing Kevin Hart short jokes. He probably won’t win, but he needs to be on tv. Actually him and this dad would be better as a duo. Right now at least. 4 yeses 

1achord - Singing Trio 

They’ve only been together for a month and a half and met in the campus of UNC. They sing Coldplay’s Fix You, and they all have a very high vocal range. They blend very well together. Probably my favorite of the night. If they don’t win I hope Simon signs them. They’re amazing. They get a standing ovation from the judges and memorex audience. Howie says they took him to church. Sofia said they sounded like Angels. Simon said the audition was perfect. 4 yeses 

Dustin Tavella - Magician 

He’s a magician and family man. Fun fact: I remember Dustin from the CMT dating show Sweet Home Alabama all the way back in 2012. He’s also a musician. He had a box and uses Terry and Heidi. He does a trick with flash cards and words. Him and his wife adopted their son when he was two months old. Wow that was actually a really cool trick with a meaning. That was a great trick. I loved the nurse choir, but this should’ve been the golden buzzer. Heidi is left speechless. Sofia said he deserved to be there more than anyone. Simon said it was magical. 4 yeses 

Sethward- Annoying troll 

He’s is his fourth time he’s auditioned. He keeps coming back. This time he’s a peacock. He ascends from the ceiling. Simon buzzes right off the bat. He notices Sofia and starts to dance to sexy and I know it. He dropped his feathers. This is ridiculous. Heidi buzzes him. Ok this is kind of amusing.  He ends by moooning the judges and the nbc logo blurs him. 4 yeses See that kids, persistence pays off. And with that the first audition is over, and I need a drink.
